Simple prepositions

What is a preposition?

Well, to put it simply, it is a word which links things mentioned in a sentence. It is, if you want, a ‘mot de liaison’, a linking word which links one part of the syntax to another.

In English, the most common ones are of, to, in, for, with and on.

For example, I am from this town or I am in this town — (NB: 2 different meanings just by changing the preposition).

A few examples:

à - to, at, by (Il va à la gare à pied)
en - by, in (Elle va en Angleterre en avion)
