How to teach your child French at home

This year we were awarded a Modulo Homeschooling Award in the French category, alongside Frantastique and Alliance Française. According to Modulo, a premier authority on homeschooling:

'What sets "Learn French with Alexa" apart in the homeschooling space is its blend of thorough language instruction with engaging delivery methods. Alexa Polidoro employs a personal and informal style that resonates well with learners of all ages, making the daunting task of language learning much more approachable.'

Our materials are suitable for learners of all ages. Indeed, school-age children in particular often find Alexa’s humorous personality more engaging than the alternative: rote learning, rifling through old textbooks, and teachers instructing dozens of students in unison.

Read on to discover what Alexa offers that makes her resources so useful for homeschooling.

The Complete French Course

The Complete French Course takes learners from A1 to C2 level of the CEFR, or beginner to complete proficiency. Learners can jump it at any level, meaning students with a background knowledge of French will find the course just as useful as those who are just starting out.

Over 40 video lessons, the course includes extensive supplementary content, including support guides with downloadable versions and quizzes which you can use to guide and check your child’s progress. You can also monitor their progress between lessons directly in the account area.

We also release closed live lessons every month, which are interactive classes on YouTube available only to subscribers of the Complete French Course. There are over 200 closed live lessons in our back catalogue, which subscribers can access whenever they want.

GCSE Preparation Course

Designed with the AQA curriculum in mind, the GCSE Preparation Course provides extensive resources across six sections - reading, listening, speaking, writing, vocabulary and conjugations - in the form of 103 extensive video lessons, as well as support guides, quizzes, gap fill exercises and much more. The various exercises in each section make for excellent homework tasks.

While the course is aimed at students taking their GCSE exams, it is also useful for students taking exams equivalent to B1 level in the CEFR.

YouTube

Alexa’s YouTube channel is one of the most popular language education channels on the platform. Videos are released on a weekly basis, diving into topics as varied as auxiliary verbsand French slang. There are more than ten years’ worth of videos to watch, including playlists dedicated to GCSE prep and speaking practice.

Meanwhile, the monthly live lessons emulate interactive classroom-style lessons on all sorts of topics, from articles to tenses. While closed lessons are exclusive to subscribers, the open live lessons, also released each month, are available to everyone.
