TEF: Compréhension Écrite

The Compréhension Écrite part of the TEF exam assesses your ability to understand written French. It is comprised of 40 questions across seven sections.

The Compréhension Écrite part of our TEF Exam Preparation Course is divided into seven sections:

  • Section A - Documents de la vie quotidienne - You will be asked to answer questions on a series of everyday documents
  • Section B - Phrases lacunaires - You will be asked to identify the missing word in several sentences
  • Section C - Textes lacunaires - Again, you will be asked to identify missing words in a text using contextual clues
  • Section D - Lecture rapide de textes - You will be asked to match one text in a series of four to the specific information being described
  • Section E - Lecture rapide de graphiques - You will be presented with sets of four graphics and asked to identify which graphic matches a given statement
  • Section F - Documents administratifs et professionnels - You will be asked to answer questions on some more technical business-related documents
  • Section G - Articles de presse - You will be asked to answer questions on newspaper articles


The Compréhension Écrite part of our TEF Exam Preparation Course provides extensive revision materials for each of the seven sections. Each section is comprised of a demo video, in which Alexa will walk you through the section, offering invaluable tips and guidance, and a number of quizzes to help you put your written comprehension skills to the test. Support guides are included to help with your revision.
